Visit To The Vets

We all went off to the vets this morning to make sure that everything was ok.

Tom, the vet, gave Tilly a good check over and said that she was absolutely fine. He said that, as usual, she was an excellent mother and seemed to have produced good healthy puppies. Tom than examined each puppy to make sure that they didn't have a cleft palate and generally checked them over for any other problems and declared that they were all fine, fit and healthy.

Marvelous!

While we were there Tom also removed the puppies dew claws, they don't actually need these later in life but they can sometimes cause problems later on. It is fairly painless but it does need to be done within 2-3 days of the puppy being born otherwise it is too big a job to perform. We always have to take Tilly outside while Tom removes the dew claws because if the puppies were to squeal it would cause her a lot of distress.

No more visits to the vets now until we need to pick up the worming treatments for the pups which will be at about 2 weeks old.

When we got back from the vets we took this short video of Tilly and her 4 puppies which really gives you a good chance to see all their different markings . . . .

The Puppies Are Here!

A day earlier than we thought and everything is fine!

Tilly had been restless all Saturday night and so we knew that it wouldn't be long. During the day she started to pant a lot, having the odd small contraction and was sick many times. These are all normal signs that she was ready to give birth. Tilly started to deliver her first puppy at around 2.30pm and it was born safely at 3.08pm.

She had four puppies altogether and their first pictures can be seen below, each one taken about 5 minutes after they were born and Tilly had bitten through the umbilical cord to separate them from their placenta.

If you want to keep a copy of any of the photos that appear on this blog, just simply drag it to your computer desktop. Easy!

Sorry about the quality of these first photos but it was all a bit hectic and it seems that I had a problem with the camera focus!

Born @ 3.08pm Female 182 grams (Freckle)

Born @ 3.34pm Male 178 grams (Blaze)

Born @ 5.38pm Male 224 grams (Bigsy)

Born @ 6.44pm Male 216 grams (Fudge)

Here's a great picture of all 4 puppies after Tilly had given them a clean and they'd all had a chance to have their first feed . . . .

Finally, for today, we thought that you might enjoy this short video of Tilly we took after 3 of the puppies had been born. Towards the end of the clip you can clearly see Tilly having a huge contraction which meant that puppy number 4 was starting to make it's move. Amazing!

We're going to try and keep you updated with news, photos and videos of Tilly and her new puppies on a regular basis, hopefully by adding to this blog at the end of each day.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Scrappy took it all in his stride of course.

Back soon!

The Proud Parents

Welcome to another edition of Tilly's Puppy Blog.

Once again the proud parents are Scrappy (5), on the left of picture and Tilly (4) on the right. This will be their third litter of puppies and we estimate that they will be due to be born on Monday 15th June 2009.

As soon as the puppies are born we will keep you up to date with news and pictures right up until they leave for their new homes at about 8 weeks old.

In the meantime links to details of Tilly's previous litters can be found in the sidebar.
